Practical exercise 5: CONSTELLATION SHAPES

The students are asked to cut and glue stars on top of a printed schematic image of popular constellation. If this task is given to more advanced or talented students, they could be ask to chose the size of the stars depending on the brightness on the sky (even though this topic does not include information about the individual stars). They could also write down the names of some of the stars on the schematic image. The appendix contains the schematic image of Ursa Major and in particular of the asterism “The big dipper”. Ideally, the stars should be cut from self-adhesive colored foil with a suitable hole punch. If these materials are not accessible, circles from any available color paper could be cut and glued to the scheme.
